Welcome to CHFA University (CHFA U), online educational programs concerning money management and homebuyer education offered by Colorado Housing and Finance Authority (CHFA).*

To help you get the most out of this training, view a video about the CHFA U online courses and Confidence-Based Learning

At CHFA, we believe that every Coloradan deserves an opportunity to own an affordable, decent home. While our loan programs help many low to middle income people purchase a home, our mission is to help people stay in their homes. Therefore, we require completion of homebuyer education or money management courses to qualify for our loan programs. We offer two online courses to satisfy our requirements, our First Time Homebuyer Education course and our CHFA Money Management course. The CHFA on-line education is meant to be an individual learning experience therefore all borrowers must be individually certified, which means each person receiving a loan must complete the appropriate certification course independently.

First time homebuyers: Regardless of what CHFA loan program you are applying for, you must take the First Time Homebuyer Education course to qualify. The course information is designed to educate about the basics of the homebuying process so that you will be prepared for any situation you might encounter along the way.

All Other Borrowers: Take the CHFA Money Management course. This will give you an extensive understanding of money management, credit, and the loan process. We think that with this information, you will have a very rewarding homeownership experience.

With CHFA U, the goal is for you to master the knowledge you need to be a successful homeowner. We use an innovative approach to help you master the knowledge you need to know as quickly as possible. As you learn, the program repeatedly assesses your mastery level so it can provide you with the specific information you need to fill gaps in your understanding. Once you achieve 90 percent mastery, you have satisfactorily completed the module. You can go through it as many times you want until you reach 90 percent.

To achieve the greatest benefit from this online course, you need to understand how the question and answer portions are constructed. Often, there are more correct answers than can be listed as options with the question, so even if you select correctly, please solidify your learning by visiting the explanation for more in-depth information. A complete listing of the information will be included in the explanation and will more extensively prepare you for successful homeownership. CHFA U is based on the Confidence Based Learning (CBL) System. Through assessment, the CBL System identifies where you have doubt or misinformation from that which you already know. Once that is established, a personalized learning tool is developed so that you can master the subject matter. To learn more about how the CBL system streamlines the learning process, please visit the "How It Works" tab at the top of the screen.
